This course reviews regulations, policies, and guidelines in Nursing Home/long-term care settings, targeting nurses (ARNP, RN, LPN), therapists, CNAs, and others in long-term care, plus those aspiring to work in this environment. It covers residents' basic rights, measures to uphold these rights, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) for privacy and confidentiality, and guidelines for proper documentation and legal aspects. OBJECTIVES After successful completion of this course the students will be able to: Identify basic resident rights Describe how the resident rights may impact healthcare practice Apply principles of resident rights to healthcare practice Describe measures to protect the resident’s rights Define Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Describe measures to respect the resident’s rights Discuss the importance of confidentiality and privacy of residents’ information Identify ways to promote the residents’ rights.
