This course focuses on Chemotherapy, oncology, and cancer patient care. It's designed for healthcare professionals including ARNPs, RNs, LPNs, CNAs, Therapists, and others interested in learning about cancer care for personal reasons. The course covers various Chemotherapy administration routes like Intravenous, Oral, Subcutaneous Injection, Intrathecal, I.M. Injection, Intra-arterial (IA), Intraperitoneal (IP), and Topical application. It also delves into radiation therapy, its side effects, patient care, nursing interventions, and common diagnostic tests for cancer patients. Objectives/ Goals: After successful completion of this course the participants will be able to: Define Chemotherapy. Describe how to care for the cancer patient. Discuss potential for exposure to hazardous drugs and engineering, administrative controls, and proper protective equipment. Discuss Chemotherapy action and potential side effects. Discuss the route of administration for Chemotherapy delivered such as Intravenous Route, Oral (by mouth), Subcutaneous Injection, Intrathecal route, I.M. Injection, intra-arterial (IA) route, Intraperitoneal (IP) and topical application. Discuss Diagnostic Studies / tests that are frequently completed while caring for the cancer patient. Discuss some nursing diagnosis, nursing interventions and rationales.
