This 4-hour course on Gerontology is designed for nurses (ARNP, RN, LPN, CNA/HHA) and other professionals working with the elderly. It focuses on the physiological changes in aging, including impacts on the pulmonary, nervous, sensory, skeletal, reproductive, and immune systems, and managing related complications. The course also covers Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), healthcare and community settings for the elderly, and available community resources. Objectives/ Goals: After successful completion of this course the participants will be able to: Describe the physiological changes that occurs with the aging process. Discuss factors to take into consideration when caring for the elderly. Discuss aging changes in the cells, tissues and organs. Describe how aging affects the pulmonary system; lungs, nervous system, the Senses, bones, muscles, joints, immune system and how to treat or manage the various complications that can arise. Discuss the various types of assistance of daily living activities (ADLs). Discuss various resources that are available within the community to assist with the needs of the elderly. *** Please note - this course is currently not approved for Florida Professional Guardians at this time.
