This Obstetrics course enhances the knowledge of nurses (ARNP, CNS, RN, LPN), Licensed Midwifery professionals, CNAs/HHAs, therapists, and other healthcare professionals about changes and complications during pregnancy. It covers the signs requiring physician consultation and reviews changes during the first, second, and third trimesters, including bleeding, breast tenderness, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, constipation, hemorrhoids, spider/varicose veins, and abnormalities like ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy (Hydatidiform mole), preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, anemia, cervical insufficiency, Supine Hypotension (Vena Cava Syndrome), hypertension, and heart disease in pregnancy. Objectives – Participants will be able to: 1. Describe the changes that occur during the First, second and third Trimester, 2. Describe interventions that will help the women deal with changes that occur during the First, second and third Trimester, 3. Describe complications that may be experienced during pregnancy such as, Ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy (Hydatidiform mole), preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, anemia, an incompetent cervix (a cervical insufficiency) and interventions, 5. Discuss complications such as Heart disease and pregnancy, Supine Hypotension (Vena Cava Syndrome), and hypertension. 6. Describe signs and symptoms that could be a sign that something is wrong with the pregnancy and appropriate interventions.
